Medical and Surgical Services

The DHB provides services locally where ever possible. This has shaped our relationship with our neighbouring DHBs, and we have excellent collegial relationships with clinicians in neighbouring regional and tertiary hospitals. There are many shared opportunities for joint learning, practice, supervision and peer review.

27 visiting specialists support our resident services, providing both outpatient and inpatient care. In addition, the Mobile Surgical Bus provides a range of services.

Wairarapa Hospital has a combined medical and surgical ward designed for varying levels of care, including negative pressure rooms for patients requiring care in isolation facilities. The service is supported by a five bed High Dependency Unit.

The six chair, six bed Day Procedure Unit is a rapidly growing area of expertise, as we strive to provide an efficient and seamless service to patients.

Medical and surgical services are supported by a focused Rehabilitation Unit, providing expert input from allied health disciplines and able to use the hydrotherapy pool as part of physiotherapy services.

Opportunities for private practice are available through the on-site Selina Sutherland Private Hospital
