Welcome to Selina Sutherland Private Hospital, where quality,

Selina Sutherland hospital offers a choice for people to have specialist assessment, day surgery, and operations and procedures that require a longer stay without having to travel out of the region.
Local surgeons and anaesthetists as well as visiting specialists provide a range of services. Currently these include services in orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology and endoscopy, with visiting services provided in dermatology, urology and ophthalmology.

Access is via Blair Street off Te Ore Ore Road, with a private carpark and entrance well signposted. Alternatively, Selina Sutherland
Hospital can be accessed from the main corridor of Wairarapa Hospital,
as we are an integral part of the new hospital design.
Our history
Selina Sutherland Private Hospital is named after a very feisty
Scotswoman who, in the 1860's, was instrumental in
establishing the first hospital in Masterton. She was known at the time
for her fearless devotion, riding sidesaddle for hours to nurse stricken
families in the region. She went on to be Matron of the fledgling
Wellington Hospital, before emigrating to Australia.
Our hospital was established in 1996 and is the only private surgical hospital in the Wairarapa. When the new Wairarapa Hospital was completed in 2006, Selina Sutherland remained an integral part of the design, and moved to our new, purpose built wing
adjacent to the periopertive suite at the same time.
The hospital is managed by a Charitable Trust and headed by a Board of Directors.
About us
Selina Sutherland Private Hospital holds the major Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) contract for the Wairarapa, performing around 440 proceedures a year funded by this government organisation.
Facilities include three consultation suites, and six private ensuite rooms for patients requiring day or longer stay procedures.
We lease a variety of services from Wairarapa Hospital, including access
to their operating, imaging (including CT and ultrasound), laboratory
and high dependency facilities.
Selina Sutherland Hospital has gained and retained Quality Health New Zealand (QHNZ) accreditation.
