Healthy Lifestyles

Go4 your life is the Wairarapa District Health Board's strategy to create an environment where individuals and whanau are supported to achieve their maximum health and wellbeing.

Go 4 Your Life is about healthy living to reduce the risk of developing long term conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, emphysema or depression.

There are 4 major components:

  • Smokefree living

  • Good nutrition for a healthy weight

  • Physical activity - enough to benefit your health

  • Mental wellbeing - violence free living and preventing depression and suicide

A Go4 Your Life Charter has been developed to provide a platform for genuine collaboration within and between sectors. Forty-five Wairarapa organizations, community groups, networks and businesses have become Community Partners and signed the Charter to record their commitment to working together to achieve the vision. We expect to add others in the future. Community Partners are eligible to use the Go4 Your Life branding for their local initiatives and a CD with logos, photos and templates is available.

This Wairarapa call to action to support people to live longer, healthier lives was launched on 21st September 2009 with a function and a Wairarapa Midweek 12 page supplement

Supporting healthy lifestyles is a key strategy in positively affecting the the health and wellbeing of all the Wairarapa's health priority groups. It has the added benefit of improving the health of the rest of the population too!

This challenge of supporting healthy choices and healthy lifestyles is being met by many groups in our community, working together in both Operational and Steering groups that break down former barriers between groups with the same aims.
