Services and staff at Wairarapa hospital will be limited today as the Nurses and Healthcare Assistants go on strike.

Essential services will be provided, and people should not delay seeking medical treatment in an emergency - call 111.

If it is not urgent – as always you should see your medical centre, ask for advice at your pharmacist or call Healthline 0800 611 116.

We have extended our visiting hours and are asking our visitors to please help where they can:

* Spread your visits to your loved one in hospital throughout the day
* No more than two visitors to a patient at a time
* Patients in the children's ward must have a caregiver with them at all times

Our number one priority is patient and staff safety and we are confident in our planning for today. We will provide acute care and emergency services during the strike.

Picketing may take place outside the hospital, this should not affect your ability to enter the building.

Nurses are hardworking and committed to their jobs and we wish to thank those who have agreed to provide Life Preserving Services during the strike period.
