This is the first time that Wairarapa Hospital has benefited from the national Countdown fundraiser - and it's thanks to the committed staff in the Masterton supermarket that Wairarapa DHB made the list.
In their own time, and taking mountains of their time, they held bake sales at schools, raffles in store and of course brought the Countdown Charity Ball into the mix - all culminating in a whopping great $33,000 raised for the Paeds Ward.
The neonatal incubator ($22,000) is already bought and in use, and the remainder is destined for new flooring which is expected in February.
The 'cheque' will soon be proudly on display at Paeds reception.
