South Wairarapa Aged Residential Care residents and staff and medical practice frontline were vaccinated on site, with the team travelling by minivan.
“Our planned approach is to offer vaccinations from dedicated vaccination centres, as well as do outreach clinics to make getting a vaccination more accessible for our region,” said Sandra Williams, the Senior Responsible Officer for the Covid-19 vaccination programme.
“We are currently vaccinating Group 2, which is a relatively small population and offers us a great opportunity to learn and to grow as we go. We will take advantage of any teething problems as they might arise and adapt our programme so that we can be ready to meet demand as the numbers grow in Group 3 and then out to the general public.”
Vaccination Centres will be established in the community from May, and the temporary outreach teams will ramp up.
“We are committed to making sure everyone who wants a vaccination can have one,” Sandra said. “And for some, that will mean us taking it directly to them.”
