The fundraiser to support the Wairarapa Hospital Chaplaincy fund got an extra boost this week with the donation of a $500 Newbolds voucher from local trucking company, Burling Transport.

Owner Johnny Burling said he was happy to contribute to the fund, which provides support to patients receiving care at the hospital and their families.

“It’s good to be involved with something that’s going to help families whose loved ones are in hospital. We’re also happy to support the hospital, which has done so much for our family and the wider community.

“Knowing you are helping out where there’s a need is pretty special.”

Chaplaincy fundraiser organiser Elaine Leggott said the donated voucher would be included in a raffle that’s part of the current fundraising efforts. The raffle includes a range of donated goods ranging from vouchers from local stores, to firewood, gift baskets and even a painting.

To date, the fundraiser had also received over $2200 in cash donations with some people donating the cost of the café coffee they couldn’t have during lockdown and a rest home doing a collection among staff and residents.

Elaine and co-organiser Wairarapa DHB Team Leader Social Work, Jenny Milne, have been overwhelmed with support from local individuals and businesses.

“It’s been amazing to see the support from the local community for this great cause. It’s also been good to raise awareness about this service that helps people at time when they really need it,” said Elaine.
