Clinical Governance
Successful health care provision and
management requires of a collaborative approach to quality health care.
At Wairarapa DHB we work together on
strategic relationships between clinicians and management, between primary and
secondary services and between the DHB and providers of services.
Clinical Governance is the framework
that brings to life our accountability
for continuously improving the quality of our health services and safeguarding
high quality of care. There is an expectation that clinical staff will
continuously improve the quality of their services by creating an environment
in which excellent care will flourish.
The Clinical Board is responsible for
clinical governance at Wairarapa DHB, ie. the systems and processes to support
clinical quality within the DHB.
The Clinical Board advises the District
Health Board on clinical and professional matters and sets policies and
guidelines on clinical and ethical issues. The Board monitors the quality of
the organisation in various ways and promotes best practice. One of its more
challenging functions is to help resolve issues relating to clinical and
ethical standards. Acting as a multi-disciplinary team is a necessity and a
real strength.
The Board has the authority to commission
audits or specific investigations and to make recommendations to the CEO.
The Board oversees the clinical audit,
informed consent, Health & Disability issues, privacy legislation, contract
requirements, College and Nursing Council requirements and professional
standards, including credentialing of senior medical staff.
