DHB services have up to date information available. You can ask any clinical staff member for information about mental health and illnesses and medications.

However there are also very good websites available that provide a range of information and support links. We have listed these below.

Mental Health Commission

The Mental Health Commission facilitates the implementation of the Blueprint for Mental Health Services in New Zealand. The Blueprint is a national mental health service development plan, setting out the Commissions' view of the qualitative and quantitative changes needed to realize the objectives of the Government's National Mental Health Strategy. The Blueprint provides a plan for a well functioning mental health system which ensures adequate and appropriate treatment and support for those affected most severely by mental illness.

Mental Health Commission vision is for New Zealand to be a place where people with mental illness have personal power, full participation in their communities and access to a fully developed range of recovery-oriented services. The Commission has a key role in providing advice and comments on mental health issues to the Minister of Health.

The Mental Health Commission has a strong focus on the provision of tangata whaiora/consumer focused recovery.

Mental Health Foundation

The MHF is guided by the 1986 Ottawa Charter and the Treaty of Waitangi working in partnership with other groups to achieve our vision of a mentally healthy country. As a non profit organization, we depend on your donations and feedback to maintain the quality of provided information and services. This website will provide you with up to date information about national and local strategies and access to handouts regarding mental health/illness.

SF - Supporting Families Wairarapa

The Fellowship is a voluntary organization established to help people cope with schizophrenia and related disorders.

The Fellowship is here for both support and education. Members of the Fellowship share information and strategies for everything from coping with symptoms to finding financial, medical or other resources.

Mental Health services throughout New Zealand are able to access these services to provide support and educate family/friends of people with mental illness.

Werry Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental health

The Werry Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health is a national centre and was launched by the Hon Annette King, Minister of Health, at the Waipapa Marae at Auckland University in March 2003. It is based in the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Auckland. It is multidisciplinary and multicultural.

The aims of the Werry Centre are to improve the mental health of New Zealand young people by:

·   providing training of a high quality to mental health professionals;

·   promoting research in child and adolescent mental health;

·   advocating for mental health needs of children and adolescents in New Zealand;  and

·   supporting the child and adolescent mental health workforce nationally.   

The Centre was named after Professor John Werry who was the foundation Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Auckland.  John is one of the most distinguished academics and researchers in child and adolescent psychiatry in Australasia and is internationally acclaimed. He has been a tireless advocate for child and adolescents with mental health problems in New Zealand for many years.
