Wairarapa Hospital

In 2006 we moved into our brand new, purpose built $30 million hospital, and are thoroughly enjoying the new facility, new equipment and the new ways of working it allows.

Set in the heart of the region, Wairarapa Hospital provides a full range of secondary medical, surgical and O&G services.

Wairarapa Hospital is a teaching hospital with links to the Wellington School of Medicine, the University of Otago Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, and Bachelor of Nursing programmes through the UCOL campuses at Palmerston North and Masterton.

We are a busy rural hospital with up to 92 beds, covering all aspects of secondary health care. Our ambulance service is an integral part of our operation. Wairarapa Hospital provides 24-hour acute/emergency services covering medical, surgical, obstetric, paediatric, assessment and rehabilitation for young and older adults, high dependency care and mental health.

We are well supported by Wellington Hospital (1.5 hours away) for tertiary services, both on and off-site. We also work closely with our neighbouring hospitals in Palmerston North and Hutt Valley. In addition, Selina Sutherland Private Hospital is on-site, giving a range of choices for patients and staff.

Community-based services are an essential part of our operations, and include public health, district nursing, midwifery care, physiotherapy, and a variety of outreach initiatives such as the Cardiac Outreach Programme and marae-based clinics for asthma and diabetes.

Many of our services work closely with other health providers in the community.

Please note that Wairarapa DHB is smokefree on all sites, buildings and vehicles from 31 May 2004.
