Services and staff at Wairarapa hospital will be limited today as nurses and healthcare assistants who are participating members of the NZ Nurses Organisation (NZNO) go on strike.

Essential services will be provided, and people should not delay seeking medical treatment in an emergency - call 111 or come into ED.

If it is not urgent – as always, you should contact your medical centre, ask for advice at your pharmacy, or call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for free medical advice 24 hours a day.

Visitors are still welcome during the strike period, however we are asking visitors to please help by spreading visits to your loved ones throughout the day if possible.

Our number one priority is patient and staff safety and we are confident in our planning for today. We will provide acute care and emergency services during the strike.

Picketing may take place outside the hospital, this should not affect your ability to enter the building.

We know that the decision to strike is not made lightly, and we continue to hope for a successful outcome to the negotiations. We wish to thank staff that have agreed to provide Life Preserving Services during the strike period.
